Dear ACF Pittsburgh Chapter Membership,

I would like to nominate Chef Brian Buskey for chef of the year.  Chef Buskey has been part of the  ACFPC the last 30 years joining in 1987 and has been an important part of the association ever since.

He’s a 1987 graduate of Westmoreland Community College and has an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts.

After graduation he worked at a small hotel in Latrobe, Pa.

 In 1989 his work caught the eye of then Exec Chef Tom Peer, CMC at the Duquesne Club where he stayed until 1995 working his last few years under Exec Chef Keith Coughenour CEC, AAC.

In 1997 while at the Mozart Room at Heinz Hall, he appeared in Pittsburgh Magazine for the best improved restaurant in Pittsburgh.

His continued developing his craft in Catering & Private clubs. The Fluted Mushroom, Longue Vue CC, Wykagal, Wildwood, UPMC Corp Headquarters, Allegheny CC, & Montour CC.

Since 2014 Chef Buskey has been the Catering Chef and substitute Instructor at Bidwell Training Center where he caters private lunch & dinner parties for Bill Strickland owner and Exec Chairman of Manchester Bidwell Corp. Here he passes on his knowledge to Bidwell students who are fortunate enough to help with his functions.

 Part of his responsibilities include the “Artist Dinners” for the MCG Jazz Entertainment Series, where during the Jazz season you’ll find the likes of Bobby McFerrin, Keith David, the Jeff Lorber Trio, Delfaeyo Marsalis, Tommy Igoe, and Take 6 gracing his table.

 Chef has continued to grow throughout his career with continuing education in programs like; the Great Chef Series at CIA Greystone with Jean Louis Palladin, The Club Chef Institute at the Greenbriar in White Sulpher Springs, WV, Restaurant Sampler Course at the CIA Hyde Park, NY, & Modernist Plating & Technique with Rich Rosendale, CMC.

Chef has donated much of his time to charitable organizations such as; the March of Dimes, United Jewish League, Urban League, and as we all know he is the ACFPC V.P. where he works tirelessly to contract all our meeting and functions throughout the year as well as a member of the Chaine des Rotisseurs Pittsburgh Biallaige since 1997.

Chef Brian Buskey Biography

Brian Buskey is currently the Catering Chef at Bidwell Training Center, a nonprofit adult career education training program.  He is an innovator in the kitchen, bringing over 30 years of experience and knowledge to the students he works with and guests he meets. He laid his initial culinary foundation through his affiliations with ACF Pittsburgh Chapter beginning in 1987, where he is currently the Vice President.  He was inducted into the The Chaine des Rotisseurs in 1997.   He built upon these affiliations by continuing his education and through the certifications he received across the country from Pennsylvania, New York and California.  He never gave up his love of learning and continued to gain a vast array of skills and techniques through hands on experience at his distinguished list of private establishments including the Allegheny, Longue Vue, Montour Heights, Youngstown, Wildwood, and Wykagyl Country Clubs.  He has worked for the Duquesne Club, the Mozart Room at Heinz Hall and UPMC.  He appeared in the 1997 Pittsburgh Magazine for best improved Restaurant City of Pittsburgh while at the Mozart Room at Heinz Hall.  Brian continues to expand his knowledge of new techniques and adhere to culinary regulations by attending seminars and keeping his certifications up to date, allowing him to be the excellent chef that he is today.
